George

Bravery Trust

George is an Army and Navy veteran who served in both Japan (1946-48) and Korean (1951-57) wars and suffered physical and mental injuries. George reached out to Bravery Trust while staying in emergency accommodation – having become homeless just before Christmas. He’d been caring for his sister and living in her home, but that arrangement was no longer an option.

Our Financial Counsellor was able to assist George to work through his debts and create a budget that afforded permanent housing on his current income. In collaboration with RSL QLD and Open Arms, George was supported to move into his new accommodation, fully furnished – with some groceries provided to get him established.  Bravery Trust paid the bond and two weeks of rent upfront, with some linen and small kitchen appliances totalling $2,100.  This provided George with a fresh start.

Never underestimate the impact we can have on others.

George penned a poem expressing gratitude which he sent to our team member, Sandra. The sentiment was too beautiful not to share:

Can I ever find words to say thank you,

Thank you for just being you,

You don’t see yourself as a hero,

But darlings believe me I do.

Can I ever find words to say thank you,

For being my rock in those storms,

You saw in me something worth helping,

Even when at my lowest in form.

Can I ever find words to say thank you,

For leading me out of my cave,

For you, life is a glorious journey,

And your friendship gives me life day by day,

Can I ever find words to say thank you,

For being my friend so true,

You don’t see yourself as a hero,

But darling believe me I do.

George was genuinely so grateful for the support Bravery Trust provided – saying thank you to his ‘’angels”.
