Leidos Australia is a proud partner of Bravery Trust and a major sponsor of Bravery Trek.
Vice President of Science, Engineering & Technology at Leidos Australia, Murray Bruce, coordinated a team of runners for Bravery Trek. They ran the full 57km from North Head to South Head launching Bravery Trek at HMAS Penguin, HMAS Waterhen, HMAS Kuttabul and HMAS Watson.
The Trek raises vital funds for veterans injured during service, awareness about the challenges faced by veterans and the support that is available.
It’s always Brave To Ask for help.
Powerful words from Murray Bruce
“So near but yet so far – launching this year’s Bravery Trek.
So yesterday was a once-in-a-lifetime day – traversing Sydney Harbour via every Navy base on foot for a great cause – from North Head to South.
It was a conga line of yellow shirts around the Emerald City – on many occasions only a few km from the start or finish despite traversing many bays, beaches and points. So near but yet so far…
The run wasn’t a race it was a jovial community; getting to know old Navy salts to new midshipman, appreciating the diversity in the group and the passion that brought us out there and saying hello to walkers coming the other way on the track – and in Singh’s case doing so in their native tongue.
I ran the day in honour of a mate who served in Afghanistan, Ben Giesbertz, who sadly took his life last year. Thanks to challenges Ben faced following his service things all got too much. Ben was so near (and so dear to so many of us) but yet feels so far away. It was a privilege to run in his honour yesterday.
Bravery Trust is trying to close that gap between the near and the far. Support is available, it is ok to not be ok, we want our vets to have the courage to reach out when they need help and, if they can, Bravery Trust like to be proactive through things like financial counselling to help stop the issues escalating in the first place.
Thanks to the inspiring runners, the amazing support crew, the incredible Navy family at each of the bases, our supporters (Leidos, Birdon Group, AWS, US Marine Corps & Lithuania) and the pollies from every stripe (Zali Steggall OAM MP, James Griffin MP, Dr Sophie Scamps MP, Kylea Tink, Matt Thistlethwaite, Allegra Spender, Andrew Bragg) who joined us to start us, ran with us, welcomed us and support this fine cause. Please dig deep if you can in support.”
